Typing Unicode Greek can be as straightforward as typing Greek using an old-fashioned font; see our guidelines on Greek Keyboards Unicode. Typing in Ancient Greek has been possible in both Windows and Macintosh environments for several years, and should be easily configurable. Not everyone used the same font so web pages would not display legible Greek text for everyone.

You still must install the fonts so your system will recognize them. It's difficult to show graphically all of the possible diacritic combinations available, so here I'm displaying a table of all of the diacritics gredk and the corresponding keystroke combinations.

The subscript reflects some Modern Greek practice; the adscript reflects usual Western practice. All of these fonts can be installed on Macintosh and Linux as well as Windows machines. I make no claims as to the functioning of any of the fonts or software below.

SBL Greek allows both adscript and subscript as variants; it defaults to adscript. AltGr refers to the Alt key on the right side of the keyboard not the left.
